Ask the Editor

 Hi Julie,

I’m a Great Aunt to triplets GGB.  They were just born Jan. 28, 2008.  Also, they have a big sister who will be 3 in April.
My question is this:  Is there a way to get donations from companies for diapers and/or formula that you know of?
My nephew, Tom is a teacher and Karen is a school psychologist but, of course, won’t be going back to work anytime soon. LOL:(I read in your letters about someone putting in a church bulletin to ask for donations-But I am so backward-I wouldn’t even know how to word that!?:)
I would appreciate any help or suggestions you can gi e me.  I wish I could buy it for them...but my funds are limited…
Thank you so much,

Eli

Dear Eli,

This is a great question.  I hope you don’t mind me sharing it with our readers.  I am by no means “the expert” in saving money (just ask my husband, he’ll set you straight).  But I have done some research since your request and here’s what I found.
As far as the formula goes, you can contact the formula companies directly.  I’ve heard Enfamil, for example, gives out a free case of powdered formula per child for twins, and three cases per child for triplets.  You can contact them directly at: 1-800-422-2902 or on their website:  www.enfaml.com
Another good place to start is the “Mothers of super twins” website:  www.mostonline.org.  Scroll down under multiple birth products on the left and click over to the “free stuff” sub category.  There you will find  not only dozens of companies that give out coupons or discounts to families of multiples but also forms on how to write company letters.  It was from them that I found out you can get a signed letter of congratulations from the President and the First Lady through the White House Greeting Office.
You can register with the diaper manufacturers--www.luvs.com, www.pampers.com, and www.huggies.com, to name a few.  Also, look at Gerber (www.gerber.com) and Beech-Nut (www.beechnut.com) baby food companies.  They not only offer coupons but also a free e-monthly newsletter.  Some of these inquiries require a copy of a birth certificate, or at least the babies names and birth dates.  So, you may want to be prepared with that information first.
I think it is just great you are such an involved and caring Great Auntie. Your time is a much more precious gift then any money you could give them any day.
Take care.  Let me know how it works out,

Julie
